The Broken Cross Club - Rules 1. The title of the club shall be THE BROKEN CROSS CLUB and its objects shall be social intercourse and recreation and the funds of the Club shall be supplies to carry out these objects.
2. The election of members shall be vested solely in the Committee and shall be by majority. 3. The minimum age for membership shall be 18 years. Junior members may be admitted at 16 years and can only take advantage of the amenities of the Club in the presence of an adult member. 4. Any person wishing to become a member must be proposed and seconded by two members and be able from personal knowledge to vouch for his respectability and fitness to be a member and his acceptance must be approved by the committee. The name and address of any person proposed for election must, for, not less than two days before the election, be prominently displayed in the Club. 5. No candidate elected by the committee shall be deemed to be a member of the Club for the purpose of these rules or participate in its benefits unless he has paid his subscription. 6. The subscription shall be decided by the committee 7. Any member ceasing to be a member of the club in accordance with the rules shall forfeit all rights to and claims upon the Club 8. The officers of the Club shall consist of a President, Vice-presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistance Secretary and Assistance Treasurer, who shall remain in office until their successors are appointed and they shall be elected annually and be eligible for re-election. 9. The committee shall consist of 18 members to be elected at the Annual Meeting (one third of whom shall retire annually and be eligible for re-election) in addition to the President, Vice-presidents, (to be elected at each annual general meeting), the Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer. The committee shall appoint its own Chairman and shall meet once a month, seven members of the committee to form a Quorum. Seven days notice in writing to be given for all committee meetings with the exception of emergency meetings which be called with the chairman’s sanction. 10. Any vacancies occurring amongst the Officers or Committee may be filled by the committee, who appoint a person to fill the office for such period only as the person in whose place he is appointed would have held office if no such vacancy had occurred. Any officer shall vacate his office on ceasing membership from any cause. 11. All the Property of the club shall be vested in a Limited Company known as Broken Cross Nominees Ltd. 12. The committee shall conduct the general business of the club and regulate the internal management and shall have power to enforce rules and make such by-laws as may be necessary for the conduct of the club in conformity with these rules. The appointment and dismissal of all servants of the club shall be vested solely in the committee. The committee will have the authority to raise finance for the future prosperity of the club. 13. No resolution passed by the committee shall be rescinded unless notice shall have been given at a previous meeting of the committee of the intention to purpose such rescission. 14. The committee shall have power to reprimand’ suspend or expel any member who shall infringe any rules or whose conduct in the club shall in their opinion be prejudicial to the character and interest in the club. 15. No member can be nominated for office unless proposed and seconded by two members eligible to vote. 16. Each member shall have one vote for each vacancy 17. In the event of the whole committee resigning at any time a special General Meeting shall be called within seven days for the purpose of electing a new committee 18. The committee or any, member thereof may be removed by a two thirds majority of the members present at a special General Meeting called for that purpose. 19. There shall be meetings of members, which may be general or special General. 20. The ordinary General Meeting shall be held yearly in March, the date to be fixed by the Committee. No person shall be allowed to vote at this meeting unless he has been a member for at least 12 months and has paid his subscription up to the preceding December. 21. Notice of a General or Special General Meeting shall be posted in the club for at least 14 days before the date appointed for such meeting and must state distinctly the objects of such meeting. The Secretary shall publicly advertise the date and time for the Meeting. 22. At the General Meeting in March a report by the Secretary shall be presented on the proceedings of the club for the past year and a Balance Sheet presented by the Treasurer. 23. The Secretary or Trustees shall summon Special General Meetings as follows:- I. in accordance with rules 17 and 18 2. at the direction of the committee 3. Upon request forwarded to the Secretary signed by not less than twelve members, stating the object of such meeting. Such meeting shall be held within 14 to 21 days from the date of the request to the Secretary.
24. Notice of any Special General Meeting and the object for which it is called shall be posted by the Secretary a clear 14 days before the date appointed for such meeting (except in the case of a Special General Meeting called under rules 17 and 18), when no other business except that for which the meeting has been convened shall be brought before such meeting 25. Any General or Special Meeting may be adjourned to such time as the majority shall decide, but no other business other than that which would have been transacted at the original meeting shall be brought forward before such meeting. 26. No resolution passed at a General or Special General Meeting shall be rescinded unless notice of the intention to propose such rescission shall have been given a previous General or Special General Meeting. 27. These rules or any of them may be rescinded, amended or added with the consent of a majority of the members present at a General Meeting called for that purpose. Propositions for alterations of rules must be submitted in writing to the committee one month prior to the date of such meeting and shall be posted in a prominent part of the club at least 14 days before the meeting. No proposition shall be taken into consideration unless supported by six members who shall attach their signatures to such notice. 28. No disorderly conduct or the use of bad language shall be permitted on the club premises. It shall be the duty of the club to take every available means for putting a stop to offences in question and to report them forthwith to the committee through the secretary 29. The permitted hours for the sale of intoxicating liquor shall be;- On weekdays Monday to Thursday (other than Christmas Day and Good Friday) from 11.00am to 11.30pm On Friday & Saturdays (other than Christmas Day and Good Friday) from 11.00am to 12.00pm On Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday from 12 noon to 11.3Opm
